Lebanese Students Cup

Saturday's A Rugby Day!

The 29th of July proved to be an excellent day for 7's rugby as the Sin el Fil pitch hosted the second round of the Lebanese Students cup.

Six teams participated in the round robin tournament that was truly a festival of attacking rugby. The participating teams were the Rhinos (NDU students), the Mortals and Mortals II( Students from LAU), BAU, Tripoli in addition to the newly formed Beirut Bees (AUB) in their first appearance in Lebanese Rugby.

The Tournament was dominated by the Mortals and the Bees from the get go with both winning their first games 26-0 and 24-0 respectively.  However, BAU proved to be a tough team and remained close to the head of the table even after a very tough game against the Bees in which they only lost 19-14. They would, however, be quickly out of contention after a significant loss to the Mortals by 31 points to none. With the Rhinos and Tripoli losing all their games the tournament decider was set for the last game of the day with the Beirut Bees playing against the Mortals. And after an excellent start by the Mortals who dominated possession and scored the first try the newly formed team stormed into the lead late in the second half with an impressive 50 meters try to end the day as table toppers and win the second round of the Lebanese students' Cup.
